Stuff for Sale

Tucson, AZ

As I'm in the midst of a job search and am hoping to be wrapping up my time in Arizona in the next few months or so, I'm now starting to whittle down my belongings both to reduce the amount of stuff I'm going to have to move and to cut down the clutter in the house in preparation for selling it. I'm going to link to this post under the Bulletin Board heading on the left side of the blog and just keep adding and deleting items out of it as I put stuff up for sale and then actually sell it.

Now for the stuff. (Newly added stuff appears at the top of each list.)

Books
I'll start with the hardest part- my beloved books. I have a great collection of books. Unfortunately, I just do not have time to read them all and some of these have been sitting on my shelves gathering dust for five plus years. Some are duplicates I bought accidentally and have never even been opened. Others are ones I've read and don't expect to reread. Hardcovers are yours for $6 each plus actual cost of shipping/packaging, paperbacks for $3 each plus actual cost of shipping/packaging. I'm willing to send these by any standard shipping method of your choosing if I can reasonably access it. I'm not a book appraiser, but I think they are all at least in decent condition with most being in what I would describe as good or excellent condition. Paperbacks tend to be more worn than the hardcovers. Also, these books are almost all free of cigarette smoke odor with the exception of a couple which my parents bought me and stank up in their house before sending them to me. I'll mark clearly any books that smell like smoke for those of you who may care. If it's not marked, assume it is smoke-free. If you are interested in a book but would like more information, post a comment or e-mail me at linuxusr at earthlink dot net (with "Stuff for Sale" in the subject line of your e-mail so I know it's not spam), and I'll be happy to take a couple of pictures and post them so you can see for yourself. To buy anything, e-mail me at that address (with "Stuff for Sale" in the subject line of your e-mail so I know it's not spam) to make arrangments.

Has anyone bought the Stargazing for Beginners, Astronomy Cafe, or The Wind's Twelve Quarters? I'm intersted in all three ... but I'm away from my primary machine right now and can't email you.

I don't imagine these going too fast- I don't think I have a lot of readers. But I'd be happy to put it aside for you until you're ready to take it if you'd like.

If you are willing to mail to Canada, I'm interested in:

1. A Brief History of Time from the Big Bang to Black Holes

2. The Examined Life

3. Free To Choose.

Thanks, Sunni! I will package yours up on Thursday and ship them out to you on Friday- that's my short day at work and that day I'll be sitting at the one of my two desks that is near a place of shipping. Hopefully, I will get the rest of my give-away books listed before then so if you see anything else you want to add, let me know and I'll send them all together. I'll send you an e-mail with my mailing address and the total on Friday after I send them. You can send me the M.O. after you get them and make sure everything is okay.

Ian, I am happy to ship to Canada. Flipping through A Brief History of Time, I notice that there are two pages with highlighting on them. Just wanted to let you know in case that sort of thing bothers you. Drop me an e-mail (linuxusr at earthlink dot net) and we can arrange the exchange.

Okay, I believe I've crossed everything off the list that has been spoken for (including yours, freeman- if you change your mind at the end of the month and decide not to get it, no problem). If you see yours not crossed off on the list, let me know and I'll fix it.

Meanwhile, the corresponding books are sitting in little piles on my desk with your names on them. I'm pretty sure I'll finish posting titles tomorrow or Wednesday.

In case anyone sees any other ones they want, I'm actually going to hold off on packing them up and shipping them until Saturday (I can hang onto them longer if, say, you are in the middle of a big move and would rather have them sent directly to your new address). When I've shipped them to you, I'll e-mail you with the total including the cost of shipping (I believe book rate is the cheapest way to go, but I'll double check that) and then you can just pay me after you get them and make sure they are in the sort of condition you expected. (If you want, I can get them weighed and send you the total before I actually ship them, but since I don't live near a place of shipment I'm going to assume giving you the total after I ship them is fine unless you specifically request otherwise.) Check, money order, or PayPal all work for me.

Does this work for everyone who has posted so far?

Okay, people, I believe that's it for the books. Only exceptions might be a few more if I happen to stumble upon them in unpacking some boxes that have been packed for the last six years, if I happen to finish something that's in progress, or maybe if I clean out under my bed.

Kirsten, it's not clear what price you want for your used books! You give the cover price, but not the amount you would like to receive in exchange.

We would like to order 4 or 5 of your books -- but can you give a ballpark figure as to how much money you want in payment? (not including shipping reimbursement).

Are you discounting your books by 30% or 60% or ??? With no guidelines, it becomes an online auction where the highest bidder gets the book.

At any rate -- we would like to purchase some of your books at a mutually fair price. So far, we want these:

Knowledge and Decisions, by Thomas Sowell (for $2.00)

Life of Pi, by Yann Martel

Reading Lolita in Tehran, by Azar Nafisi

Race and Culture: A World View, by Thomas Sowell

Capitalism, the Unknown Ideal (listed as free with an order)

This order is tentative, depending on the prices. Please reply here, or directly to my e-mail at Kev11sky@aol.com.

P.S. Kirsten, you should just tell that Tucson neighbor to leave your funnel spiders alone in the future -- their intentions were probably benign, but they were trespassing on your private property!

Hopefully it's more clear now where the prices are listed. I've put that text in bold and red. It's $6 for hard cover and $3 for paperback plus actual cost of shipping/packaging. (Right now I have plenty of tape and cardboard so at least until that runs out, packaging is free.) Just glancing through the cover prices, I would say that most of these are discounted by 70% or more. I've set aside the books you've requested, and I'll go mark them off the list now. You can send me an e-mail (linuxusr AT earthlink DOT net) with your address when you've finished making your selections, and we can make payment arrangements.

Hi, Thunder,

I've marked the following off the list for you:
-Extreme Gardening: How to Grow Organic in the Hostile Deserts
-Native Plants for Southwestern Landscapes
-Fruits of the Desert
-Desert Landscaping
-The Desert Gardener's Calendar
-Southwest Landscaping with Native Plants
-Desert Wildflowers
-Low Water-Use Plants for California and the Southwest

If you see any that I've missed (or something else that you want), or if you don't want something on the list above, just let me know. When you've finalized your selections, you can e-mail me at linuxusrATearthlinkDOTnet and we can arrange shipping and payment details. If you would like to correspond in encrypted format, a link to my public key is located under the Bulletin Board heading on the left side of the page.

Thank you!

Everyone's books have been shipped as of today except Thunder's. (Thunder, I still need your address and for you to confirm the book list I posted for you.) You all should have either an e-mail or a PayPal invoice (if we agreed to use PayPal) from me with your total. Let me know if you have any problems or think something is wrong, and I'll try to fix it ASAP.

Thank you,

Kirsten

Yep, sorry I haven't gotten back to you on that yet. I'll reply to it later this evening when I get home. I was going through my stacks of books to get rid of last night and I haven't found one of the freebies on your list but I think that may have something to do with all of the books beginning to look the same to me as I browse titles over and over :-) Hopefully, I'll find it when I get home tonight.

When I get down there, I want to pick up some of what you have left. Because you know I need more books ... HA!
