Bishops want animated pogo-riding pope banned

German Catholic leaders launched legal steps on Tuesday to prevent youth music channel MTV from broadcasting a controversial cartoon series which depicts the Pope as a pogo-stick-riding maniac.

Outraged bishops from Pope Benedict XVI's home state of Bavaria filed a legal injunction against the broadcaster, which plans to show the first episode of the satirical series Popetown on Wednesday evening.

The injunction says Popetown -- which was dropped in Britain after a wave of protest -- is insulting to Catholics since it shows the Pope bouncing through St. Peter's in Rome on a cross-like pogo stick and satirizes religious ceremonies.

"In this way the Catholic faith and the Catholic church are exposed to ridicule, which is justified neither by the freedom of opinion, of art, of the press nor of broadcasting," the archdiocese of Munich and Freising said in a statement.

What a pathetic sort of spineless and lily-livered "leaders" these yahoos are such that they are unable to withstand free speech in the form of a cartoon. I mean, given that the history of this church suffers from no lack of examples of many of its leaders committing, advocating, or facilitating physical violence and other sorts of abuse, this is pretty ballsy.

I was born and raised Catholic, I was agnostic by the time I graduated Catholic high school, and went atheist a couple of years later. (It is only recently that I have come to embrace His Noodly Appendage, but that is another matter entirely.) I found much of what I learned of Catholicism in my thirteen years of Catholic incarceration and since to be offensive to my sensibilities be it the practice of cannabilism, institutional discrimination against women, the eternal torture merely for unbelief and the punishment of infants who die unbaptized, etc...

Are you kidding me??? Leaders of a church that punishes unbaptized babies, embraces the never-ending torture of millions for the mere failure to agree with the whackass doctrines of the church, and shuffles around pedophile priests to abuse again and again are upset OVER A CARTOON???

Get the fuck over it.
